Frequently asked questions

Everything about hiring a roof box.

What is roof box hire, and how does it work?

Roof box hire lets you rent a quality hard-shell roof box instead of buying one. You book online, collect the box from a local hub (or have it delivered or fitted where offered), use it for your trip, and return it when you’re back. Roof Box Hire UK’s hubs are independent local businesses who own and maintain their own boxes.

What is the best way to hire a roof box in the UK?

Roof Box Hire UK is a dedicated roof-box hire network: local collection hubs, real product choice (specific makes, models and capacities), optional fitting and delivery services, and secure online booking. You book online and collect locally — no couriers, no oversized parcel returns.

How much does it cost to hire a roof box?

Prices are set by each hub and vary by box make, model and capacity — check the hub’s page or the booking flow for live prices. Where a hub applies tapered long-hire pricing, the later days of a longer hire get progressively cheaper, so longer trips work out at a lower price per day. Fitting and delivery, where offered, are priced by the hub and shown before you pay.

Which roof box should I choose?

It depends on your car and your load. Hubs list specific makes and models with capacity in litres, dimensions and opening style — a bigger box swallows family-holiday luggage or skis, while a slimmer box suits smaller cars and lighter loads. Check the box’s bar compatibility against your car, or use a hub’s fitting service and let them sort it.

Do I need roof bars?

Yes — a roof box mounts to roof bars, not directly to the roof. If you don’t have bars, participating hubs can advise on what fits your car and offer a fitting service.

Will a roof box fit my car?

Almost certainly. A roof box sits on roof bars, and nearly every car can take roof bars — whether it has roof rails, fixing points, or a bare roof (which uses clamp-fit bars). The quickest way to be sure is to check whether your car has roof rails or fixing points, or simply ask your hub before you book: they know what fits and many will fit the box to your car for you.

Is there a roof box hire hub near me?

Roof Box Hire UK’s hubs are independent local businesses in towns and cities across the UK. Enter your postcode on our locations page to see the nearest ones on a map, ranked by distance.

Can I get a roof box fitted for me?

Yes — participating hubs offer a fitting service: they fit the box to your car properly and check everything is secure before you drive away. The price is set by the hub and shown at checkout.

Can I get a roof box delivered to my door?

Some hubs offer local delivery — the box is delivered to your address and collected when you’re back. Availability and pricing are set by each hub and shown at checkout.

Can I cancel or extend my booking?

You can manage your booking from your account. If your trip runs long, you can request an extension in a couple of taps — and if self-service extension isn’t available, message us and we’ll see what we can do.

Who am I actually hiring from?

The hub — a local independent business. The hub is the merchant of record: your payment goes to them directly and their name appears on your receipt. Roof Box Hire UK provides the booking platform, support tools and the hub network.
